Condoms

Condoms are available for both males and females. They are an excellent birth control method. It is because they prevent STIs along with pregnancy. However, you have to use them every time you have intercourse.

Progesterone-only-pill

You may have to take them every day. Doctors say that this contraceptive is 99% effective. Moreover, Diaphragm and caps are also supposed to be used every time you engage in sex. However, they are less effective than condoms and progesterone-only-pill.

In addition, certain ways of birth control are renewed in around some weeks or years. However, they work excellently to prevent pregnancy. Some of those methods of contraception are-

  • Contraceptive patches and injections are resumed after 3 weeks and 8 weeks, respectively.
  • Doctors restore the Vaginal ring every month.
  • People need to take the combined pill on daily basis for 3 weeks.
  • Contraceptive implants and Intrauterine system (IUS) stay active for around 3 and 5 years, respectively. However, Intrauterine devices (IUD) are functional for 5-10 years.

In addition, there are some permanent methods of birth control. They may include female sterilization and male sterilization (vasectomy). However, they do not prevent STIs.

These contraceptive methods have benefits and risks. It is wise to consult with your doctor for the same. Moreover, talk to him or her about the correct usage of combined pills and condoms.
