What is Honeymoon cystitis?

Honeymoon cystitis is a disease that can take place after women have sexual intercourse for the very first time. It may also be caused when they have sex after a considerable time. E.coli bacteria reside in your skin. It can enter your urethra during intercourse and may result in causing the infection. You may experience the following symptoms if you have the disease-

  • Pain during sex
  • Burning sensation when you pee
  • An ache in the lower abdominal cavity
  • Feeling of illness
  • Recurrent urge to go to the washroom
  • Cloudy urine
  • Fever

If you have a moderate infection, the symptoms may fade away after two or three days. However, if the pre-mentioned signs and symptoms keep troubling you, tell your doctor. He or she may prescribe certain antibiotics to address your problem. They may start easing the symptoms of honeymoon cystitis the same day you begin to use them.

Women are more prone to the infection

Women are more likely to have the infection because their urethra is shorter as compared to that of men. It makes it facile for the bacteria to reach the bladder. More than half of the women have cystitis once in their entire life. Although it is common, you must not ignore it if the symptoms do not go or become worse. Reach out to your doctor before the situation goes out of your hands.

How can I prevent the infection?

There are certain ways through which you can prevent honeymoon cystitis. Some of them are as follows-

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Use a lubricator if you have vaginal dryness. You can ask your doctor for a suitable one
  • Go to the washroom and urinate after you have sex. It will wash away the bacteria if it has entered the Vagina
  • Rinse off the genitals properly to avoid infection

You can also ask your doctor for more sets of prevention.
